Advanced Work Packaging

Advanced Work Packaging has been identified by Industry Leaders as the most promising approach for much needed improvements in project Safety, Quality, and Productivity. It is an enhanced model that is the next logical step from current work packaging practices, encompassing full project life cycle strategies from pre-planning to turnover. It is built on the understanding that focus on front end planning and detailed engineering leads to improved execution at the work front. Early project set-up and collaborative planning sets the framework for coordinated construction and engineering work packages (CWPs and EWPs). This leads to more effective planning, execution, and monitoring of installation work packages (IWPs) through WorkFace Planning.

"The overall process flow of all the detailed work packages (construction, engineering, and installation work packages). AWP is a planned, executable process that encompasses the work on an EPC project, beginning with initial planning and continuing through detailed design and construction execution. AWP provides the framework for productive and progressive construction, and presumes the existence of a construction execution plan." - -The Construction Industry Institute, based at The University of Texas at Austin (CII)

WorkFace Planning

WorkFace Planning is the practice of tightly defining the scope of each planned task through a discipline specific Installation Work Package (IWP). The WorkFace Planner coordinates with relevant departments and craft supervision to ensure all constraints have been addressed, or identified and removed prior to execution, and tracks progress on the package until it is 100% complete. This increased preparation, collaboration and certainty improves the likelihood that the work will be completed on time with improved safety, quality, and productivity. Assigning a dedicated WorkFace Planner also frees up Field Supervision from administration and crisis management, and allows for increased mentoring and craft interaction.

What does that mean for you?

The advancements in the development of the Advanced Work Packaging model, and the evolving understanding of how WorkFace Planning fits into it as part of a whole rather than a stand-alone process, has led to uneven application within the industry.

There is a tremendous need for a Certification Standard to give all stakeholders common framework for implementing Advanced Work Packaging on their projects.

PICC provides that Stability to the Industrial Market and allows you to take advantage of the tremendous need for planners who understand how to implement Advanced Work Packaging as Best Practice on their projects. PICC Planners follow a Professional Development Model that sets them apart and puts them on the road to Career Advancement.
